Fencing at Edmonds Lodge
No. 165
Greetings Brothers.
Fencing is a sport, art and
science that has existed with humanity, first picked up a
pointy stick to defend against fellow cavemen. It has come a
long way since that time. Today, fencing is a sport of body
and mind that is the province of gentlemen and women. It has
vast advantages on other sports: in spite of its dynamic
aspects it can be practiced by young and old, men and women
without giving any particular advantage to either player. It
is good for the body, mind and soul. It also happens to be
fun, a lot of fun.
I have been instructing fencers
for many years and have been a fencer from high school days.
I have taken fencing to every small part of Alaska that I
have lived in, so I have some experience in starting small
groups of non-fencers and turning them into excited and
skilled participants. I have been trained by the celebrated
American Olympic Champion Dr. Charles Selberg.
Fencing at Edmonds is open to
all Masons, family and friends. We have plenty of equipment
and safety gear. Multimedia instruction is available.
Perhaps the best and finest asset available to Edmonds
fencers is the wonderful ballroom in the Lodge Building. So
come out and fence! I am sure you will have a good time and
you’ll feel good!
WB Jimmy Norton and I have been
working on the best time for practice and currently Sunday
at noon seems to be best. The Schedule for Feb will be
posted on line and in the trestle board.
